A new look for everyone!

There's a new look for everyone (but Ed) in my household. On Saturday, we took the dogs to be groomed. Ivan was shaved and looks like a different, much smaller, dog. His tail and ears were even shaved. Professional bathing makes all the difference with Lou, so now he's smooth and shiny. And I finally colored my hair! It's nice to have my deep brown back. In the future, if you ever hear me talk about getting all-over highlights, remind me that I don't like it. Thank you.

The resignation announcement

Last week, I turned in my letter of resignation. As is company policy, today the following e-mail is sent to the company from my direct supervisor:

"I wish to inform staff of the resignation of Amanda Bove, editor in HAP, effective August 15. Please join me in wishing her well in her pursuit of a teaching career.

Amanda will begin student teaching on August 18, the culmination of her work to earn a master's degree in education. Amanda has been a valuable member of the HAP team for five years, and her talent and hard work have helped bring many HAP books to fruition."

I was amazed at the number of well wishes I got. Staff that I barely know were calling to congratulate me. It was sweet, and it made me a little sad.

But not that sad.

Potty mouth

I am a trucker's daughter. Apparently, that means I curse a blue streak at the slightest thing. There's no "gosh darn gee whiz" for me. Nope, I go straight for the F-word when life throws me the slightest inconvenience. Pour too much coffee in my cup? Fuck. Drip on the floor? Fuck. Can't find the book I just put down? Fuck.

And I don't even realize I'm speaking at all, let alone cursing. Ed asked me not too long ago, "Do you know you just dropped the F-bomb 8 times in the past few minutes?" My response: "I didn't say anything!"

I don't know if this is a recent development, or if I've always been such a potty mouth. But I need to get out of this bad habit!

you shall above all things

you shall above all things be glad and young
For if you're young, whatever life you wear

it will become you;and if you are glad
whatever's living will yourself become.
Girlboys may nothing more than boygirls need:
i can entirely her only love

whose any mystery makes every man's
flesh put space on;and his mind take off time

that you should ever think, may god forbid
and (in his mercy) your true lover spare:
for that way knowledge lies, the foetal grave
called progress,and negation's dead undoom.

I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing
than teach ten thousand stars how not to dance

e.e. cummings

of course

I have started a blog, which I will update regularly. Of course I will. See, I am woefully horrible at keeping all the individuals who are near and dear to me updated on my life, which is exciting enough to be worthy of an entire blog. Of course it is.

But without a doubt, there are some out there, especially a trio of lovely ladies, who will read my irregular boring blog because I am loved. Of course.
